Alfa Romeo Stelvio (pictured) is the company's current flagship car
Alfa Romeo is set to reveal a new large SUV, which will become the company’s new flagship.
The new car could also be the first to have an electric powertrain, revealed Auto Express.
It will be based on the same vehicle architecture that underpins the Stelvio SUV - which is the current flagship vehicle for the company.
The unnamed car will become the largest car the company has ever made.
A mild-hybrid powertrain could power the vehicle could develop up to 400bhp.
The new SUV reflects global trends in the car market as sales of these cars soared across 2017, becoming one of the most popular vehicle types on the road.
Speaking to Auto Express, Alfa’s Chief technical officer Roberto Fedeli, said: “The Stelvio for sure is an example of Alfa DNA, why don’t we translate that in a car which is a little big bigger?
The manufacturer is also potentially eyeing up a replacement to the Alfa Romeo 4C
The car is, however, not expected to launch for another two years.
When it goes on sale it will hope to challenger large SUVs such as the Audi Q7 and the Volvo XC90 and will likely be offered in both five and seven-seat configurations.
Alfa has also revealed plans for a replacement to the Giulietta hatchback and the 4C sports car.
